Objectives

Research on Lepidoptera is undertaken in varied teams and on a wide variety of themes, which, overall, do not provide for a multi-disciplinary system which could be easily apprehended in terms of strategy or evaluation. The network responds to this in three ways:

Analysing skills and model species
  1. Identifying skills present and the technological tools available within French laboratories and finding the subject areas covered as well as those absent or insufficiently covered.
  2. Analysing model relevance according to objectives: models for genomics, interaction, phylogeography.
Strategic outlook
  • Analyse and reinforce the possible interaction, in particular by contributing to the necessary emergence of a real integrative dimension in the projects; support the submittal of collaborative projects (intra-institute, ANR, Europe).
  • Propose, if necessary, a coordinated policy to the supervisory institutes that deals with the appearance of teams, the creation of posts and support for multi-disciplinary platforms.
Insertion of a scientific project and its international positioning
  1. Support unifying themes; one of the most important ways to establish the study of the adaptation of Lepidoptera to their biotic environment is to tackle the “pest or not" question and to look at ways to coordinate efforts so that this topic appears readable, and possibly gives direction to certain research subjects.
  2. Play an active role in international networks (such as the consortium Lep Genome) and in the application of research on the control of Lepidoptera pests.
